The Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Leadership (MHS-CL) is offering two courses for the upcoming spring term, January 2017 – April 2017. Both upcoming spring courses have a focus on better understanding population health management models of care and are comprised of three days of in-person instruction at the beginning of the term (January 11-13, 2017) with the remainder of instruction being distance-based. Duke students are encouraged to apply as well if the topics are of interest to them. MHS-CL degree program applications for spring 2017 admittance are being accepted now through December 5, 2016. Program courses are also open to a limited number of non-degree seeking students and non-degree enrollment applications are being accepted through December 30, 2016.
Spring Course Descriptions:
CLP-214: Population Health Management Approaches
Course Director, Mina Silberberg. Ph.D., Department of Community and Family Medicine, Division of Community Health
This survey course provides an overview of the importance of population health, models of population health management and improvement, and considerations for evaluation of these efforts. It will give health care professionals a better understanding of concepts such as panel management, care coordination, practice improvement, accountable care communities, and patient/stakeholder engagement along with the systems and tools necessary to develop those models.
CLP-200: Perspectives on Health Care
Course Instructor, Claudia J. Graham, MBA, MPH, Duke Department of Community and Family Medicine, Division of Community Health
This course explores the framework of current health care environments and explores the forces that may drive future models of care. Students will focus on various issues of transformational models of health care delivery that seek to optimize population health management and focus on perspectives of health professionals’ leadership best practices.
